Mood Reset- Awaken All Five Senses
We all go through periods where we feel a little dull as if we are pouring from an empty cup. It’s not uncommon to feel like you’re just going through the motions, unaligned, or just out of the flow. These feelings can be frustrating. But, there are things that you can do to not only figure out why you’re stuck but also learn how to get motivated and on track again.
When I am feeling low I love to set aside time for myself and try to figure out why I’m feeling these feelings. Maybe my time of the month is creeping up on me, I’m working too much, or I am just emotionally drained. Once I am aware, I accept it and find ways to recharge. I love stimulating all of my five scenes to reset and become more aware of my body and mind, and their needs. I find this is best to do on a Sunday morning to make sure my week comes to an end on a high and is a clean slate to start.
Before starting anything it’s best to do a nice clean of the house, and buy yourself some flowers. It’s proven that having fresh flowers in the house can relieve stress and anxiety.
Let’s set the mood. I love using my oil diffuser. I find it to be so fun to become an alchemist and experiment with different combinations. My current favorite I have been using when I need to feel grounded but uplift my mood is orange, cedarwood, and peppermint. I love these because while the orange is uplifting to mind and body, the cedarwood soothes nervous tension while calming you. The peppermint is a great add-in for alertness. After you have made the house smell amazing, turn on your favorite uplifting music, dance around, and just enjoy being in the moment.
Now it’s time to activate your sight, you can go about this in a few ways but I think the best of all is to go for a long walk in nature. Try to connect deeply, sit with your back against a tree with no music and observe. Look at the ants and bugs, watch how the wind plays with the branches. Observe nature and really appreciate how symbiotic the true nature of nature is. If you’re feeling creative, bring a paint set with you and feel inspired by your surroundings, it really doesn’t matter how it comes out. It’s truly all about allowing yourself to express yourself freely without judgment. If you’re not around an area where nature is close or you want to stay inside you can paint, or draw a place in nature where you feel your best.
This might be the best of all, taste. Who doesn’t just love a home-cooked meal? For this specific meal, cook yourself something healthy that you really enjoy making. This meal should have different vegetables and flavors to stimulate all of your senses. While you’re cooking your meal it’s very important to not rush it, really enjoy the process. Wash the product with care, smell the aromas of the seasonings, feel the textures, and listen to the sounds of the food cooking. When you eat, take a bite, close your eyes, and enjoy the food. That food is an offering to your own body, your temple. This is a great practice to start doing every day because you will feel your love for your body growing stronger each day.
After you have enjoyed your meal it’s time for some extra self-love. Have a long hot bath or shower, activate your sense of touch by practicing a puja on yourself. A puja is an act of worship. I do this every night and it has changed the way I view myself completely. In India, people perform pujas, or rituals, for the different Gods and Goddesses. In the puja, they bow to the idol, they put flowers near the idol, and they feed the idol with all their love because these statues represent God. You can offer devotional love to your own body. When you take a shower, when you take a bath, treat your body with all your love, treat your body with honor, with gratitude, with respect. Finish off your reset day with a long journal session.
Remember, it’s normal to feel out of alignment, or just in a little bit of a rut. Don’t forget that you have the tools to help yourself get back on track.
