Balancing Your Masculine and Feminine Energies
There’s no doubt that certain qualities are inherently “masculine” or “feminine.” However, these energies don’t exist in isolation. Together, they create a beautiful symphony.
Today, we’ll explore the two binary energies that exist in nature: the divine masculine and feminine. We’ll also explain how you can embrace them to improve your health, peace, energy, creativity, and joy.
What Is Masculine and Feminine Energy?
Masculine and feminine don’t distinguish women from men. They are opposite but equal energies that flow through the universe and everything in it (regardless of gender).
In Chinese medicine, it’s known as yin and yang.
Feminine energy – or yin energy – is associated with softness, kindness, compassion, sensuality, nurturing, and creativity.
The divine masculine (yang energy) is associated with independence, leadership, logic, strength, confidence, focus, achieving, and problem-solving. The masculine is all about giving and providing for others.
These energies complement each other. However, it’s common to experience a deficiency or excess of one or the other.
Signs of an Imbalance in Masculine and Feminine Energies
We are all born with a predominant divine energy – which usually lines up with our gender. However, many people live out of alignment because of societal pressures and norms. Masculine attributes are valued in society as powerful, while feminine traits are diminished and seen as weak.
Suppressing your feminine side may result in aggression, aloofness, overworking, and burnout. Equally, denying your masculine energy may make you feel disempowered, unfocused, lonely, and unworthy.
In short, these two energies need one another.
How to Create Harmony Between Your Masculine and Feminine
Creating harmony within your energy system starts with acknowledging which energy is more dominant in your life. Most of us suppress our feminine side because society values productivity and logic. There seems to be little time for empathy, self-care, and mindfulness.
Here are a few daily rituals you can use to step into your divine feminine and masculine energies:
1. Practice Yoga
Yoga philosophy is all about balancing yin and yang energies through movement and breathing. It brings you out of your head and into your body, allowing you to tune into your emotions, physical sensations, and intuition.
At The Collective Ritual, we offer guided yoga flows in our monthly membership program.
2. Spend time in nature
Nature perfectly embodies the divine masculine and feminine. Soaking in the beauty of the natural world every day is one of the best ways to balance and recharge your energy system.
Hiking, swimming, planting a garden, birdwatching, and catching a sunset will help you harness the balancing effects of nature.
3. Try Alternate Nostril Breathing
At TCR, we love practicing and teaching breathwork.
One of our favorite practices is alternate nostril breathing – known as Nadi Shodhana. It directly balances your masculine and feminine energies by creating harmony in the body and mind.
Take your right hand and fold your index and middle finger so they’re touching your palm. Hold the thumb and ring finger lightly over your right and left nostril.
Close the right nostril with the thumb and inhale through your left nostril slowly.
Release the right nostril and use your ring finger to block off your left nostril, exhaling slowly through your right nostril.
Inhale again through your right nostril.
Close your right nostril, exhaling through the left.
Inhale through the left nostril.
Switch fingers and exhale through your right nostril.
Inhale through the right again.
Exhale through the left nostril.
You can repeat these steps for 5-10 minutes per day.
4. Open Your Heart Chakra
The heart chakra unites both masculine and feminine energies.
We love using heart-centered breathing to open the heart chakra.
Place your hands on the center of your chest and close your eyes as you connect to your heart chakra.
Imagine your heart expanding with radiant energy as you inhale through your nose.
Exhale through the mouth, imagining your heart emitting gratitude as it contracts.
Maintain this visualization as you inhale for a count of 5 and exhale for a count of 5. You can keep this up for several minutes if it feels good.
5. Use Essential Oils
Essential oils, made from potent plant extracts, help balance your energy. You can diffuse them in your home, make a massage oil, or have an essential oil bath.
Popular masculine essential oils include clove, sandalwood, ginger, patchouli, vetiver, cinnamon, rosemary, and thyme.
Feminine essential oils are rose, ylang-ylang, myrrh, jasmine, orange, geranium, chamomile, and melissa.
Essential oils with both yin and yang properties are lavender and frankincense.
Wrapping Up
Acknowledging your divine masculine and feminine may help you avoid burnout and live a more fulfilled life. That said, listening to your intuition is crucial on this journey
